    Porsche Lowers Canadian Pricing

    By Michael J. DeWane | September 27, 2007

porsche-logo.jpgYou may have heard that recently a precedent was set in Canada when the Looney achieved parity with the US Dollar. No doubt many Canadians didn’t think so hard when seeing the same products for sale in Canada with higher prices in the past. That’s gotten a little tougher to reason away recently as $1 Canadian = just about $1 US. The disparity in pricing is most easily noticed in higher priced items, like oh I don’t know, let’s say luxury automobiles. Apparently, potential Porsche customers have gotten wise to this and have taken to buying their bahnstormers south of the border. So much so that Porsche’s north American headquarters saw the need to address it. With higher taxes etc. it will still cost more to purchase a new Porsche in Canada, but this move will probably help appease dealers who have seen their customers flocking southward like geese in springtime.

Porsche press release with full Canadian 2008 pricing follows.

ATLANTA, September 25, 2007— Porsche Cars North America, Inc. announced that it will lower prices in Canada by more than 10 percent on its 2008 models compared to prices and standard equipment on its 2007 lineup.

“We cannot ignore our customers and dealers in Canada who can look to the U.S. and recognize a substantial price difference,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “We listened to the market and did what is best for our customers in Canada.”

Porsche will lower the MSRP of its 2008 models by an average of more than 8 percent. Additionally, on an average equipment adjusted basis, 2008 models will offer another 2 percent in savings from 2007 models.
